baking the dust

Sunlight isolates the afternoon of high, dry grass. I have a skeleton key to the attic, stuffy with hot dust and Halloween masks. I have a pitcher of ice water and a crate of paperbacks. I sit on the porch every day and wait for you to come walking across the field. I wait for you to wake the dust.
