I experience moments of near-tranquillity when I'm walking at night and looking at the moon and the stars and all that black space. But show me a photograph of Earth taken from space, and I experience anxiety and dread. The planet looks noisy, as if I can hear all the humans eating each other alive down there--hear it all the way from my imaginary perch in outer space.
